Check Out This Amazing Dirt Cake Recipe Kids Will Love

Kids love this dirt cake recipe. It looks like dirt, but it tastes scrumptious with its rich, chocolate cookie flavor.

Use your imagination and have fun with this. Cut gummi worms in half and have them “crawling” out of the dirt, serve with a garden trowel, or bury some of the worms for little ones to find by digging with their spoons. This is a cake that's as entertaining as it is delicious!

Dirt Cake

Ingredients:

1 large bag chocolate sandwich cookies
1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese
1/2 stick butter or margarine
2 cups milk
2 large boxes of vanilla instant pudding
1 (8 oz.) container non-dairy whipped topping
8 inch flower pot
Artificial flower (for decoration)

Directions:

1. Crush the cookies in a blender or food processor and set aside.

2. Cream together the butter and cream cheese.

3. In large bowl, mix the vanilla pudding and milk.

4. Add cream cheese mixture and the non-dairy whipped topping. Beat together until thoroughly mixed.

5. Line the flower pot with foil. In the flower pot, layer the cookie mixture, then the pudding mixture, then the cookie mixture, ending with the cookie mixture (to resemble dirt).

6. Add the flower to the top.

Other Fun Cakes to Try

Once you've tried our dirt cake recipe, give these other fun cake ideas a shot. Your kids will love them!

  • Poke cake. You can make a poke cake with any boxed cake mix, but Devil's food cake is a common choice. Bake the cake, then use a wooden skewer to poke a lot of holes into the cake. Pour your sauce of choice over the top, and then frost with cool whip.
  • Smash cake. If you have very young children, this is a fun one to do. Bake a cake and then give it to your young children to eat with their hands. Since the cake will quickly get ruined, use a boxed cake mix instead of a homemade recipe.
  • Funfetti. Funfetti cake is vanilla cake with colored sprinkles inside. It might sound simple, but the extra pop of color will be loved by children. Frost with Funfetti or vanilla frosting.
  • Rainbow cake. This one takes some time and dedication to make, but the end result is truly amazing! A rainbow cake involves multiple layers of cake, each colored differently to represent a color on the rainbow.
  • Chocolate lava cake. This one is great for the science lovers in your life! A chocolate lava cake has a fudgy center that “explodes” out of the cake when it's cut. You may have seen one at an Applebee's before. They're rich and delicious.
  • Cake pops. Kids love these because they're easy to handle and can be taken with them to school. Cake pops can be made out of any leftover cake you have on hand, or you can make a cake specifically to shape into cake pops. Decorate them however you please, and enjoy!
  • Cartoon-themed cake. Does your child have a favorite cartoon? Try making a cake themed after it! You don't necessarily have to be an expert at frosting to make this work; simply picking a color scheme inspired by the show and writing the show's title on the top of the cake can work just fine.
