Make these stuffed jalapenos your own!

One reason this recipe has become so popular is the endless ways to riff on the original. With just four ingredients, swapping one out can make a big difference. Try fresh peppers over canned to up the heat level, or pre-grill some fresh peppers to help mute the heat and impart a roasty flavor.

Swap out the pork sausage for bacon wraps if you prefer that flavor, or with turkey bacon if you prefer. If using bacon, you can lay the bacon out and sprinkle seasoning onto one side, patting it into the meat. Then, with the flavoring side out, wrap the peppers with the bacon to allow the same crispy texture to develop during baking.

The cheese filling can also be adjusted to half cream cheese, or find a different shredded cheese you prefer for the filling. For a dairy-free version, try subbing out the cheese for non-dairy cream cheese as these are typically the most similar to real cheese when heated in the oven. Flavored cream cheeses are also a good way to add some extra flavor the dish.
