Ingredients:

1 loaf French bread
8 large eggs
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
⅛ teaspoon salt

Topping:
1 cup butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
¾ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg

Directions:

1. Slice the bread into 20 1-inch slices. Arrange half of the slices in a generously buttered 13×9 or larger baking dish.

2. In a large bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients beating with a whisk until well blended but not foamy.

3. Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread slices, making sure all are covered.

4. Overlap the remaining bread slices and pour the remaining egg mixture over top.

5. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

6. Christmas morning, preheat the oven to 350°.

7. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, combine the ingredients for the topping and bring to a boil, pour and spread evenly over top of bread slices.

8. Bake casserole, uncovered, for 35 to 40 minutes until puffed and golden.
