Cleaning Tip #1
Reuse to Beat Clutter
This is a cleaning tip that will save you money and keep your house clean. Tossing old socks may not seem that big of a dealt. With a house full of stuff, who needs an extra thing lying around? However, those socks could end up saving you money over the course of a year. Instead of throwing those old socks away, use your old (clean) cotton socks as dust rags. You’ll save about $50 a year with this easy tip.
If you buy dust rags or prepackaged cleaning cloths at the grocery, they can cost anywhere from $2-$5 a package which only lasts about a month on average. The cost over a year is enough to save or splurge on something much more fun.
Recycling by using something old in a new way is not only great for the planet, it saves you money. For the dust rags, simply put an old sock over one hand and you have a reusable dusting mitt that didn’t cost anything. They work just as well as the hyped up cleaning brands, and they can be reused again and again.
The idea of recycling old items to reduce clutter and save money isn’t new. People have been doing it for thousands of years. When people needed something before the advent of stores on every corner, they adapted by using creative thinking. They came up with ideas to get what they needed from items they already had.
Instead of throwing out your old newspapers, save them to use as fireplace fire starters or to shred it for lining pet boxes.
If you have an old broom you’re thinking of tossing think again. Use the old outside for sweeping walks and driveways, which will preserve your new broom even longer. Instead of throwing away worn out bath towels, use for washing and drying your car.
There are an endless number of ways that you can recycle your old household items. Use creative thinking and you’ll come up with lots of ideas. Being a recycler will save you a lot of money in the long run, money that you can enjoy instead of literally throwing away! Another great thing about recycling is the long term effect you’ll have on the planet by cutting down waste. Now that’s a solid reason to reuse!
