You Need to Try These Awesome Spider Web Cupcakes

Need a simple dessert for your Halloween party? Look no further than these spider web cupcakes! They'll do a great job of fitting the theme without requiring a lot of effort or for you to undertake a real challenge. Elaborate Halloween treats are great, but sometimes keeping it simple is just as nice.

These cupcakes are chocolate with vanilla frosting. We use black decorating gel to make the actual webs. Most people like vanilla and chocolate, so you don't have to worry about whether these cupcakes will be enjoyed by everyone. Even arachnophobes will enjoy these!

If you're in need of a treat for a school Halloween party, these cupcakes also work great. When making treats for young kids, it's important to avoid being too creepy or scary. What doesn't seem intimidating to you can be very freaky for a young kid! These cupcakes say “Halloween” while still being kid-friendly.

We recommend using box cupcake mix, just to keep it easy on yourself. Of course, if you want, you can always make your own cupcakes from scratch. We know that some people swear by homemade cupcakes every time. If you don't want to use chocolate cupcakes, another flavor can work as well, but we think the darkness of chocolate cupcakes works best against the vanilla frosting.

Ingredients:

1 package chocolate cake mix
1 can of vanilla frosting
1 tube black decorating gel

Directions:

1. Prepare cupcakes according to package directions. Let cool.

2. Frost with vanilla frosting.

3. Pipe gel on top of frosting in a spiral pattern starting from the center of the cupcake.

4. Drag the point of a knife across the set of circles starting at the center of the cupcake towards the edge. Repeat this process evenly around the diameter of the cupcake three more times.

Note: You can create a spider for the web by inserting thin black licorice whips into a miniature marshmallow. Place four pieces of licorice on each side of the marshmallow. Cut the licorice down so the legs are proportionate to the body.
