There’s minimal cooking involved, so you don’t have to worry about burns, or someone getting cut while wielding kitchen knives. Eating it can be even more fun than making it!

Our healthy recipe for orange Jell-O salad is no exception. The addition of orange juice gives it a healthy twist and it couldn’t be easier to make. Plus, it’s just plain delicious.

Healthy Orange Jell-O Salad Recipe

If we trace the origins of Jell-O, we will find that the granulated gelatin had been patented in 1845 and was then sold to the masses. However, the dessert really took form (no pun intended) when Pearle Bixby Wait of Le Roy, NY began adding flavorings to the gelatin. The dessert was especially popular in the early to mid 1900’s.

Kraft has registered Jell-O as a trademark used for their gelatin desserts, puddings and no-bake cream pies. However, there are many other companies that make gelatin products.

Jell-O can be served ready to eat or in powdered form. It is available in a variety of flavors and uses sugar or artificial sweeteners to give it a dessert like taste.

In our recipe, we choose to use an unflavored variety and allow the fresh taste of the orange juice to give it a great tangy twist. Just mix the juice with the powder, pour into a pan, and refrigerate. Then, look forward to serving your guests a refreshing treat that is sure to put a smile on their faces.

Other Great Recipes to Make With Kids

During the summer, finding ways to entertain your kids can sometimes be a challenge! This is especially true when the weather is rough. If you're running out of ideas, try making something together a couple days out of the week! This healthy orange Jell-O is a great one to make with kids, but we've got some other ideas once your kids are ready to try something else.

Making cookies with kids can be a lot of fun. Even younger kids can get in on the fun by helping you gather and mix ingredients! If cookies aren't a favorite of your family, brownies can be fun to make as well. Find a from-scratch recipe that you like, or use a box mix from the store.

You can also have your kids give you a hand making dinner! Usually, recipes with more steps are easier to have your kids help you with. This gives them more opportunities to actually get involved. Alternatively, you can try making a simple dessert like pudding with your kids! Pretty much every kid loves pudding, so this one should be a popular choice.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you exercise kitchen safety. Your kids should know how to handle themselves around hot and sharp objects. Never let a young child work with a knife or a hot surface. Make sure your kids don't run in the kitchen while the stove is on or sharp objects are out; if they trip, they could seriously hurt themselves or others. Teach your kids that rowdiness in the kitchen isn't acceptable. It's easy for kids to get really excited, but safety always needs to come first.
