After nine months of amazing body changes, you may be facing some not so amazing changes like extra weight. You can regain your pre-pregnancy shape plus some extra energy by adding some time for exercise to your day.
Post Partum Fitness - After the Birth
You may have stretch marks or other souveniers from pregnancy that will never go away. However, if you have extra weight from your pregnancy you can get rid of it!
The first thing to do is to NOT compare yourself to the media moms out there. You know them, the Denise Richards of the world, who gave birth and came out of the hospital looking like she didn't skip an aerobics class. Remember, celebrity moms count on their bodies for a paycheck in many cases. They have had to follow rigid exercise programs while pregnant which made it seem like they effortlessly breezed through the pregnancy without an extra pound.
Because most new moms have the regular everyday tasks to contend with such as work, errands, families, losing that excess weight after childbirth is not quite so easy. If you didn't exercise during your pregnancy, starting a program now will be harder. Harder or not, it will be worth it. As a new mom you need your energy and and exercise program will give you that.
Walking, jogging, aerobics, yoga, and many other types of exercise will allow you to lose the extra weight more quickly and you will feel better at the end of each day. Most doctors will say that it is safe to start a post-pregnancy exercise routine six weeks after the birth of your child. Walking and swimming can be started shortly after your baby is born if you do so in moderate amounts at a slow pace. Work up slowly to the more strenuous exercises to ensure your safety and reduce the risks of any complications that could arise from over-exerting yourself before your body has had adequate time to recover.
Take it slow, do not expect instant weight loss and most of all stick with it! You will see a very obvious difference in your BMI, body shape, your emotional well-being and your energy levels. Stick with it, and it will happen!
