Benefits of Making Bread Pudding in a Slow Cooker

Bread pudding recipes are relatively quick and easy; however, they do involve a few more steps than this slow cooker version. The first main benefit of making bread pudding in a slow cooker is that there are less steps.

The other main benefit is that it doesn't use the oven. Maybe you're making a big dinner and having bread pudding for dessert. You might need your oven for other dishes and don't have time to make the bread pudding. Fresh and hot bread pudding is always the best. So, making it in the slow cooker frees up your oven and allows you to serve it fresh and hot.

Where Did Bread Pudding Come From?

Bread pudding was created out of necessity in the 11th century in England. Food was scarce, and nothing went to waste. Bakers needed a way to use their stale bread. That's when they discovered they could make a dessert with old bread. It was called “poor man's pudding” for a few centuries because it was popular among the lower classes.
