You Need to Try This Fancy Braised Chicken with Asparagus and White Wine Recipe

Most of the recipes on this site are designed to be both simple and family-friendly. But sometimes you want a meal that’s a little bit fancier, maybe even for a date night at home. Fortunately, this is still just as easy as our other recipes, even though it’s a bit fancier.

In keeping with the theme of this site, this recipe is also pretty affordable. It will taste like you’ve gone out to an upscale restaurant, but you really made the recipe with just six or seven simple and budget-friendly ingredients. It tastes as you’ve really put in a lot of effort, but only you have to know just how easy it was.

This recipe uses fresh asparagus, commonly thought of as a spring vegetable. You’ll love the fresh flavor that will remind you of springtime, no matter when you eat it.

Fragrant spices will fill the air as you prepare this delicious meal. Your family are sure to come home and ask, “What smells so good?”. The flavors in the recipe are really a knockout and you’re sure to have happy eaters in your house.

Chicken Braised in White Wine

Chicken braised in white wine is a classic recipe in itself. You’ll find recipes for it on fancy websites like Williams-Sonoma and Martha Stewart. Many of these other recipes call for some slightly different ingredients, including mushrooms or baby potatoes.

If you’re a fan of wine, this recipe gives you a good excuse to serve wine with dinner (or just have a glass while you’re cooking). Because it only requires a half cup of wine, you’ll still have most of a bottle leftover after preparing this meal.

You can use any dry white wine that you choose. A pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc will be a good choice for a recipe like this one. You can also use vermouth if you have it on hand. Vermouth is both inexpensive and tends to last better if kept on hand for cooking.

While the quality of wine always matters to people who care about wine, cooking wine is a slightly different story. You can pick up a bottle of “two buck chuck” at Trader Joe’s and it will be just fine. In fact, this entire recipe gives you a lot of bang for your buck. It tastes like you spent a lot more money on the ingredients than you actually did.

If you’re serving this meal to the whole family, you don’t have to worry about exposing your kids to wine. Nobody will think that you’re trying to get your kids drunk! When you cook with wine, all the alcohol content vanishes as it cooks. The point of the wine in recipes like this one is just for the unique flavor it adds.

Braised Chicken with Asparagus

Braised chicken with asparagus is a tasty and special dish all on its own. But there are also easy ways you can change up the recipe a bit according to your liking. You can try adding different types of vegetables, including mushrooms, green peppers, broccoli florets, or even sun-dried tomatoes. You can make it with these extra vegetables added or as a substitution to the asparagus if your family doesn’t love asparagus.

Of course, you can add several possible items as garnishes, too. Consider adding a generous garnish of cooked bacon crumbles to the top of this dish. It doesn’t actually require much bacon at all, just a couple of strips. It really transforms the recipe by giving it an extra bit of bacon-flavored goodness.

We also think that cheese belongs on practically everything. While you can put any type of cheese on top of this dish, our personal favorites are either mozzarella or Parmesan. Personally, we think Parmesan works the best. But make sure you spring for the good shredded stuff—no green can here!

This recipe tastes much more complex than it really is to make. True to the majority of our recipes, this one is still designed to get you in and out of the kitchen in about a half-hour. Choose this dish when you want some more adult-friendly food to wow your taste buds.

Can You Make This Recipe With Kids?

If you're making this recipe for a family meal, you may be considering making it with your kids. Cooking with your kids is a great opportunity to make fantastic, lasting memories with them. Once they're grown and out of the house, they'll look back on the times they spent in the kitchen with you with great fondness.

So, is this recipe good for making with kids? We think it's best to keep this recipe for the older kids. Young children aren't going to be able to help with much here, especially because hot oil is involved. Hot oil and young children never mix well.

On top of that, you're using alcohol in this recipe. While older kids know better than to take a sip (or will be fine if they choose to), young children can be at risk with even just a small amount of alcohol consumption. Whatever age your children are, make sure to keep the wine well out of reach when you aren't immediately using it.

Of course, regardless of what age your children are they should practice safety in the kitchen. Many accidents can occur in the kitchen due to carelessness or recklessness, so it's important that your children behave appropriately. If all goes well, soon you'll have made a great dinner for everyone to enjoy.
