Sides to Have with Ham

Ham is pretty flexible when it comes to sides. Check out some of our ideas for making your ham dinner complete.

  • Honey-glazed carrots. Carrots have a natural, mild bitterness to them that can be off-putting for some. By throwing some honey into the mix, you'll add a perfect hint of sweetness that will mask that bitterness. These carrots will go great with your ham!
  • Rice. You can't go wrong with this staple food. Whether you choose white rice or brown rice, this option will go great with your ham. Just remember to thoroughly wash your rice before cooking it!
  • Mixed vegetables. Getting your veggies in for the day is very important. By adding this side dish to your ham dinner, you'll help ensure that you and your family get your daily serving of vegetables.
  • Yams. Yams are a great comfort food that can be served alongside ham. They're especially nice on cold fall or winter nights!
  • Cornbread. Plain white bread can be boring; why not serve cornbread instead? If easy and simple is what you're going for, grab some cornbread mix from the store. Otherwise, try making it yourself! Not much beats homemade cornbread.
  • Potato salad. If you want a side dish that's a little unusual to have with ham, try potato salad! You might be skeptical of how well this pairing will work, but it definitely does! Grab some from your local deli, or try your hand at making it yourself.
  • Green bean casserole. If you've never tried this tried-and-true side dish before, then now is a great time! Green bean casserole is hearty and healthy, making it the perfect dish to pair with your ham.
  • Sweet potato casserole. Your kids are sure to love this one. Sweet potato casserole is delicious and cozy. It will take some time and effort to make, but it's definitely worth it!
