Caramel Fudge Recipes

This is a very old-fashioned caramel fudge recipe. It gets its rich flavor from the caramelized sugar. It's rumored that this is the origin of fudge as a dessert. In the late 1880s, it's rumored that a baker let her caramel recrystallize in their cooking pot. This happy accident led to the creation of a sweet buttery treat known as caramel fudge. This recipe won't taste like a happy accident.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 Tbsp. white corn syrup
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Directions:

1. In a heavy pan or skillet lightly brown 1 cup sugar. Slowly add cream, remaining sugar, butter, syrup and salt.

2. Cook to softball stage or 235 degrees F on a candy thermometer.

3. Remove from heat; beat until thick. Pour into a buttered pan.

4. Chill for 3-5 hours until firm. Cut into squares.
