Health Benefits of Cucumbers

Many Americans want to know what's in the food that they eat, and for good reason. Many people don't get the nutrients that they need every day. Because of that, they suffer from avoidable problems like fatigue, bloating, and a higher susceptibility to illness. Let's see what cucumbers can do to help you get the nutrition you need each day.

Cucumbers will provide you with almost all of your daily need for vitamin K. Vitamin K is used by the body for blood clotting. In addition, cucumbers provide a decent amount of vitamin C, a nutrient that boosts your immune system and helps promote healthy skin. Manganese is another nutrient that's found in decent amounts in cucumbers. Manganese is used by the body to metabolize fat and carbohydrates.

Cucumbers consist of over 95% water. Because the water content in them is so high, they can actually help you stay hydrated. We are often under the misbelief that the only water we get is from what we drink; that is simply not the case! We can actually get a decent amount of water from eating certain foods, like cucumbers, that have a high water content. Of course, eating cucumbers doesn't mean you shouldn't be drinking water.

If you want to maximize the nutritional value of this salad, leave the skins on the cucumbers when you slice them. A lot of the nutritional value of a cucumber is held in the skin.
