Is Egg Salad Healthy?

The benefits of egg salad have been hotly contested for years. Eggs in particular have had a rocky past when it comes to their benefits; for many years, they were considered a bad food. Nowadays, they are highly regarded for their protein and high vitamin content. Recent research completely contradicts previous conclusions that eggs are unhealthy due to high cholesterol content.

But is egg salad healthy? The answer is a bit complicated. You'll still be getting many of the benefits of eggs, since of course they're a primary component of egg salad. On top of being packed with protein and vitamins, eggs tend to be filling. This makes them useful for anyone who often finds themselves with midday cravings, or anyone who's trying to consume fewer calories each day.

However, the health benefits of egg salad are negated to an extent by the mayonnaise. Mayonnaise is high in calories, and tends to have a lot of oils in it. This recipe tries to limit the potential negative impact mayonnaise can have by keeping the amount of it used small. Still, any egg salad recipe that uses mayo is going to limit the health benefits you'll get from the eggs.

Ultimately, egg salad is not the healthiest choice, but it also is by no means unhealthy. Simply eat it in moderation, and you'll be good to go!
