Your Family is Going to Love This Orange Sesame Ribs Recipe

There is nothing as irresistible as a hot plate of ribs. The flavoring you give them will work to take the dish over the top.

Orange sesame gives ribs a tangy kick as well as an authentic Asian taste right in the comfort of your own home. Find out what you can do to make this dish for your family as well as other variations your hungry crew is sure to love.

Sesame and Orange

Let’s start by talking about the predominant flavors that give the ribs in this recipe their taste.

Sesame flavoring starts with sesame oil. The oil has a neutral flavor that can be mixed with other ingredients that will work to give meals a rich, nutty taste and a punch of flavor. When we think of dishes like orange chicken, or in this case, orange ribs, the orange flavoring is added by using orange-flavored foods such as orange jams, orange juice, or orange zest.

Just as you would expect, the addition of these orange-based foods gives meals a tangy, fruity flavor. In our recipe, the sesame and orange flavor is derived from a sauce that is made by combining one 10 oz jar of orange marmalade, one 7 1/4 jar of hoisin sauce, 3 cloves of minced garlic, and 1 tsp. toasted sesame oil.

The pork is first prepared in a skillet, cooking until it’s brown on all sides. It is then put in a slow cooker with the sauce and left to cook for 8 to 10 hours on low or 4 to 5 on high. The slow cooker is the perfect way to prepare this recipe. It allows the meat to reach the desired point of tenderness as well as letting the sauce absorb into it so that it becomes infused with flavor.

Once the meat is done cooking, it is placed on a serving platter. Skim the fat from the sauce and spoon the sauce over the ribs.

Slow Cooker Ribs

As mentioned earlier, a slow cooker is perfect for preparing ribs. Slow cooking helps the ribs achieve that fall off the bone tenderness and, if you are flavoring the ribs with a marinade, it allows plenty of time for the meat to absorb the sauce for a great, rich taste.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that there are several recipes for slow cooker ribs available. Here is one we recommend. The recipe starts by combining 2 cups barbecue sauce, ¼ cup brown sugar, 4 tbsp. apple cider vinegar, 3 tsp. dried oregano, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 tbsp. cayenne pepper, and 1 tbsp. chili powder in a small bowl.

Next, take 3 lb baby back pork ribs and add salt and pepper to taste. Put the ribs in a slow cooker and pour the sauce over it. Let it cook 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high. Spoon barbecue sauce over the ribs, serve and enjoy.

Ribs are a great meal to serve to your family. They are hearty, savory and delicious, and with so many flavorful combinations, you are bound to find a way to prepare them that will please even your fussiest of eaters. Just make sure you have plenty of napkins and bibs on hand!

Sides to Serve With This Recipe

These ribs can be served with any variety of sides, but rice is recommended as it will work to absorb any excess sauce carrying the flavor throughout the dish. If you are not a fan of rice, potatoes, or a nice light salad, will also make a good complement for the dish.

When making rice, make sure to check if the rice is enriched with extra nutrients. Many rice brands do this. If your rice is enriched, avoid washing it. Washing enriched rice will remove many of the nutrients that are added, negating the benefit.

If your rice isn't enriched, wash it. Washing your rice will do two things, One, it will remove any excess debris that could be left over from the manufacturing process. Examining your rice isn't sufficient to tell you whether it has debris or not; often, it isn't visible.

Two, it will remove any excess starch from the rice. The starchiness of rice is great when you're trying to make a dish like sticky rice, but most of the time it causes unwanted outcomes. If you don't wash your rice, it will be prone to sticking together and forming clumps. Washing your rice to remove excess starch will produce a fluffier end result.
