You’ll Love This Potato Beef Bake Recipe

The best dishes for regular family meals are hearty casseroles. A potato beef bake has hash browned potatoes, ground beef, sloppy joe sauce, and lots of ooey gooey cheese. It's one of those dishes that you can feel good about breaking out at any time of the year.

Finding recipes that are affordable and delicious can be tough. Cheap recipes often forgo ingredients that make other, more expensive recipes really shine. This can mean dinner turns into a bland affair. With the right recipes, however, dinner can go from dull to delightful.

The best thing about casseroles is that you can easily feed a hungry crew. It’s easy if you need to double it when your kids have friends over or you want to save leftovers. You can also add extra ingredients and use the recipe as a base. It’s incredibly flexible, which is perfect for busy families.

Depending on the size of your family, you may even end up with leftovers! Leftovers help save money, and they make for an easy dinner. Some claim that dishes like this taste even better the second time around! Now, let's dive into this recipe.

Ground Beef Casserole with Potatoes

Sloppy joes are usually served with French fries or tater tots on the side. This recipe is similar but has the advantage of serving the potatoes all in one dish with the sloppy joe meat.

The ground beef casserole with potatoes is very similar to the famous party potatoes (also known as funeral potatoes). It’s layered with hash brown potatoes, cheese, and something creamy like cream of chicken soup or sour cream. If you were to make the recipe like party potatoes, you could still leave in the ground beef but swap the sloppy joe sauce with sour cream.

You can also add other ingredients to make this dish even more delicious. You can add some corn, chopped green bell peppers, diced onions, or a can of diced tomatoes. You can add even more cheese on top, or make a crust out of bread crumbs or crushed corn flakes cereal.

Experiment with different kinds of cheese for this recipe. We call for a Mexican cheese blend, but getting creative can produce some interesting flavors! Try cheddar, mozzarella, or something more unique than that. Think about the cheeses your family loves. Strong-tasting cheeses that blend well with beef and potatoes are ideal.

Potato Beef Casserole

This recipe fits a lot of different needs. It’s naturally gluten-free with potatoes. However, you might want to make sure that the frozen hash browned potatoes are actually gluten-free since some companies use wheat flour in processing them.

You can also make this recipe vegetarian-friendly. Use vegetarian soy crumbles like Boca or Morningstar Farms. You can make it healthier by using ground turkey and low-fat cheese. This recipe is easy and customizable.

The one thing this recipe is not, however, is naturally low-carb. Hash browned potatoes and the sloppy joe sauce both add carbohydrates to the meal. Because sloppy joes are normally served on hamburger buns or bread, you can serve this with bread on the side.

You can also serve this with a garden salad on the side. Then, you get some healthy fresh vegetables in addition to the hearty casserole. It’s easy to make up a fresh salad by chopping up some lettuce and adding some shredded carrots. But there’s also nothing wrong with buying a pre-packaged bag of salad. It’s super easy, cheap, and still extra healthy for your family.
