The Best Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Neiman Marcus is a famous department store chain known for their upscale clothing, classic service, and pristine displays. But a well kept secret of Neiman Marcus are their classic and delicious chocolate chip cookies in one of their many in-store cafes. Some people claim they head into the store for their cookies alone.

Over the years, there have been variations of the recipe that include ground oatmeal, nuts, and grated chocolate bars but this is a basic recipe that many of us know and love. Of course, you are welcome to play around and change it to your liking.

Chocolate chip cookies have been a mainstay to many homes ever since they were invented in 1938 by Ruth Graves Wakefield owner of the Toll House Inn in Whitman, MA. Of course, not all of us can dine at a nearby Neiman Marcus Café, but we can certainly make these cookies at any time as an alternative. Considering they're homemade, the added ingredient (love!) can make them even tastier.

Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick of softened butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 and 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of instant coffee powder
  • 1 and 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Cream the butter with the sugars using an electric mixer on medium speed until fluffy (approximately 30 seconds)

2. Beat in the egg and the vanilla extract for another 30 seconds.

3. In a mixing bowl, sift together the dry ingredients and beat into the butter mixture at low speed for about 15 seconds. Stir in the espresso coffee powder and chocolate chips.

4. Using a 1-ounce scoop or a 2-tablespoon measure, drop cookie dough onto a greased cookie sheet about 3 inches apart. Gently press down on the dough with the back of a spoon to spread it out into a 2-inch circle.

5. Bake for about 20 minutes or until nicely browned around the edges. Bake a little longer for a crispier cookie.
