6 Reasons I Finally Stopped Ordering Domino’s for My Family
For years, Domino’s was my go-to for an easy, reliable pizza night. Like a lot of people, I had my favorite orders and stuck with them, often choosing them over other options without much thought. But over time, my habits started to change.
From menu changes to shifting expectations around quality and value, a few key factors made me start looking elsewhere. While Domino’s is still one of the biggest pizza chains in the world, it’s no longer my first choice. Here are six reasons why I stopped ordering it as often — and why others might feel the same.
This post was updated in April 2026 to include updated information about Domino's menu items and additional editorial enhancements.
Factor 1: Many of Their Classic Dishes Have Been Discontinued
The first reason why I've stopped ordering Domino's Pizza is that they have discontinued many of their classic dishes. One of the beloved dishes was their Brooklyn-style pizza. Brooklyn-style is typically a slice that has a thin crust but holds a lot of toppings. Domino's discontinued its Brooklyn Style Pizza in 2024 and introduced a New York Style Pizza in its place.
Another old-school pizza that people liked was the Chicken Taco Pizza. The pizza had a great combination of flavors, but ultimately, it also disappeared into the night.
Other Discontinued Menu Items
Domino's hasn't stopped removing items from the menu, and many desserts that people enjoyed are no longer available, including the Oreo Dessert Pizza. It was a huge "pizza" covered with cream and Oreo cookies. What's not to love? Apparently, it didn't sell well and was discontinued.
Back in the 1980s, Domino's also experimented with breakfast pizzas. The menu offering had sliced American cheese and liquid egg. It was a good idea, but they may have been ahead of their time. Sadly, the item is no longer available.
Factor 2: They've Been Raising Their Prices
Due to inflation and other economic issues, many companies are finding the need to raise prices to stay competitive and make a profit. We get that — but sometimes, price hikes can be too much to take. Back in 2022, Domino's faced significant increases in food costs and adjusted some menu deals, such as reducing the number of wings in certain offers, but price increases varied by location and item.
Many of the menu items that were affected were combo meals, including their Mix and Match meal, which went up by a dollar. However, that's not the only way they have changed things and upset their customer base.
Changing Menu Items
Some items on the Domino's menu haven't increased in cost, but the company has modified them in other ways that customers don't like. In January 2022, Domino's reduced the number of wings in its $7.99 carryout deal from 10 to 8. It's not the end of the world, but the changes could deter customers from eating there.
Plus, when a pizza costs more than what someone can get at the supermarket, it doesn't provide a big incentive to go to Domino's.
Factor 3: The Food is of Low Quality
Domino's was great in its heyday. People would order Domino's for family dinners, events, gatherings, and more. However, that was when there were fewer options for pizza. Now, you can get gourmet pizza for delivery at countless restaurants. To stay competitive, Domino's needs to up its game, but I think the quality isn't what it used to be.
High Number of Quality Complaints
We're not alone when we say that the quality of Domino's is not what it used to be. All you need to do is look at the customer complaints. There are complaints about the taste, the accuracy of the orders, the cost, and more. Part of the issue is that Domino's tries to make and sell as many pizzas and other items as it can. By making them that quickly, they sacrifice quality.
Factor 4: It's Often Cold When It's Delivered
One of the reasons I used to order Domino's Pizza was to have it delivered, so I could enjoy it at home or with friends. However, what I'm starting to realize is that when I finally get the food, it's always cold, or close to it. It's even worse when ordering both pizza and appetizers. What do you eat first? Something is likely to be cold, and it will likely sour your desire to order from there again.
And It Doesn't Reheat Well
Sadly, if you get your food and it's cool or cold, you have no choice but to reheat it if you want warm pizza. The problem is that Domino's food is notoriously bad in the microwave. The pizza often comes out soggy and gross, and that makes the whole experience even worse. Most pizza is still good when it's cold, but if you're like me and you're not into that, then you may be more hesitant to order in the future.
Factor 5: Many Menu Items Have Too Much Fat
As you may suspect, eating at Domino's is not what you would consider to be healthy food. To start, many of the dishes are loaded with saturated fat. One of the most unhealthy dishes, the Cali Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza, has about 4.5 to 9 grams of saturated fat per slice, depending on the size and crust, which can be up to 45% of your daily maximum.
The ExtravaganZZa pizza has about 11 grams of saturated fat and over 400 calories per slice. That makes up 40% of your daily maximum. Another pizza, the ExtravaganZZa, has about 8 grams of saturated fat and around 400 calories per slice, which is about 40% of your daily maximum for saturated fat.
The Dangers of Saturated Fat
You’re probably aware that eating too much saturated fat is bad for your health. When you are constantly eating foods with too much saturated fat, it can raise the level of cholesterol in your blood. That will increase your chances of life-threatening illnesses, including stroke and heart disease. If you’re going to Domino’s and you get a full pizza, opt for just a slice or two. Then, watch what you're eating for the rest of the day.
Factor 6: Most of the Menu Items Are Loaded With Calories
Just like how you need to be careful with the saturated fat you put in your body, you also need to worry about calories when you order Domino's Pizza. Even some of the smallest dishes are loaded with calories, such as the Cheddar Bacon Loaded Tots.
A full order of Cheddar Bacon Loaded Tots has about 960 calories. The Garlic Parmesan Wings have about 390 calories for four pieces, and the Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich has about 440 to 450 calories for half a sandwich.
Beware of Calories
By having one meal at Domino's, you could be going well past your daily recommended maximum for calories. The most obvious negative effect is weight gain, which leads to a host of other ailments. Not watching your calories can also lead to serious conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, and several types of cancer.
With that said, there are some healthier items on the menu, like the veggie pizza or ham and pineapple pizza, but you still need to be careful.
