My family has always been a Domino's family. We know it's not the fanciest pizza place in the world, but we can't help it. We love to head there on a Sunday night, get a big pizza and a side of wings, and have some great family bonding time. We've been going to Domino's for several years now, and over time, the menu has changed a bit. The menu used to be larger, and at one time or another, it was filled with some interesting options. However, as time goes on, those unique offerings have gone away. On this list, we'll tell you about some of those discontinued items that we'd like to see Domino's bring back.
Some of the options include unique features, like the much-beloved calzone pockets and the dessert treat called Fudgems. We also miss the fun pizza flavors, like chicken taco and roasted red pepper. Alas, they're gone, and they may not be coming back. Which of the items on this list are your forgotten favorites?
Chicken Taco Pizza
The first item that I'd love to see Domino's bring back is the chicken taco pizza, which first debuted when the restaurant launched their cheeseburger pizza. The pizza was loaded with veggies, chicken, multiple types of cheese, and an irresistible taco seasoning. It was like the best of all the best food groups in one.
Why We Miss It
We miss when pizza places were a bit more creative with their menu options. Every place has sausage and pepperoni, but how many eateries offer a full taco feast? Part of the reason why the chicken taco pizza is gone is likely due to the multiple ingredients. It was probably more work than it was worth, but it sure was tasty.
Calzone Pockets
There was a time when Domino's was experimenting with different food offerings, including calzones. For many, calzones were a no-brainer. After all, they're like a full pizza packed in a tasty package. You could get them in a variety of flavors and they were easy to eat while on the go.
Why We Miss It
The calzone pockets are one of the menu items that we really want to see Domino's bring back, and soon. In addition to getting the pizza toppings of your choice, you could also ask for a side of hot sauce, which brought the menu item to another level. The calzones are one menu item we could see them bringing back in the future.
Oreo Dessert Pizza
Back when it was introduced, you could get an amazing Oreo dessert pizza for just $3.99. Those were the good days. Sadly, this amazing dessert was only available for a limited time, and you could only get it if you ordered a meal. At 10 inches across, the pizza was huge, and it could make for a dessert that you could enjoy for days at a time.
Why We Miss It
Who wouldn't miss something called an Oreo dessert pizza? This beauty was loaded with vanilla sauce, crushed Oreo cookies, and a lot of love. When the dessert was taken out of the oven, the sauce was perfectly gooey. Domino's management said they had to stop making the pizza when they couldn't keep up with demand, but we wish they would try again.
Baked Apple Oven Dip
A tasty treat that many people likely forget is the baked apple oven dip that was offered as a side dish. It was discontinued only a number of years ago. It was a bowl of baked apple sauce that came with a side of cinnamon twists. However, you could dip your pizza into it, too!
Why We Miss It
We long for the days when we could get something truly unique from a big pizza chain, and that's why we would like to see Domino's bring back the baked apple oven dip. This was a very tasty and novel idea that made people want to go to Domino's, and it would be wise for them to put it back on the menu.
Chicken Kickers
Domino's currently has a large roster of chicken options, from honey BBQ wings to a meal that has loaded chicken with crispy bacon and tomato. However, one of their best offerings was the chicken kickers, which were small pieces of chicken that were seasoned with a tasty mix of herbs and spices.
Why We Miss It
We miss having more variety when we eat at Domino's Pizza. With the chance to order a side of chicken kickers, we were able to mix things up a bit. The kickers were perfectly seasoned, and they went down great with a soda. In the meantime, we'll need to get the next best thing at another fast food restaurant, like Wendy's.
Fudgems
Back in 2006, Domino's decided to up their dessert game and add a new treat to the menu called "fudgems." They were small oven-baked brownies. They were a big deal when they first launched. Domino's even introduced a three-foot-tall mascot named Fudgems who would hug children during commercials. It was an exciting time.
Why We Miss It
We want to see more dessert options at Domino's. Sure, they have their lava crunch cakes, cookie brownies, and cinnamon twists, but the fudgems were on another level. When they came out of the oven, they would melt in your mouth, and we'll never forget that taste. Part of the reason why fudgems were discontinued is because people thought they were a little too strange, but we thought they were just right.
Breakfast Pizza
Another item that we would love to see Domino's bring back is the breakfast pizza. If you don't remember these, then you're probably not old enough. The breakfast pizzas were introduced during the 1980s. But, perhaps the pizza chain was ahead of its time. The pizzas were loaded with liquid eggs, American cheese, and several different toppings. One of the best variations was the bacon and sausage combination.
Why We Miss It
Ask most people what their favorite food is, and many will tell you that it's pizza. So, why wouldn't we want to eat pizza for breakfast, too?! Imagine getting all of the best breakfast food groups together on one slice. It's perfect for eating on the go. These days, many fast-food restaurants have breakfast options, so we may see this one come back.
Roasted Red Peppers
For a while, you had the option to get roasted red peppers as a topping for your pizza, and people really loved them. In fact, the peppers almost always received good reviews from customers. However, in 2023, the topping was discontinued, likely to streamline the menu and allow for faster service.
Why We Miss It
Roasted red peppers kick things up a notch for a pizza. If you want something different, roasted peppers can really hit the spot. While green peppers are still an option, they don't have the same kick. In the meantime, the best thing we can do to enjoy our pizza to our liking is to use the package of red pepper flakes.
