These U.S. Mountain Towns Have Some Pretty Stunning Homes

There are many beautiful places to explore across the United States. While some prefer coastal cities that are by the water, there's something peaceful about the mountains. Some mountain towns are more affordable, and others have more expensive, luxury homes.

If you're considering moving to the mountains, there are many areas in the country to consider. There are several major mountain ranges to choose from, including the Appalachians, the Rockies, and the Sierra Nevada Range. While there are many different states with mountain ranges, Colorado is known for having the highest average elevation and the greatest number of towns situated above 8,000 feet in the United States. Out of the 45 mountain towns listed below, 14 of them are in Colorado.

Whether you're in the market for a second home or you're looking to make a big move to a mountain town, you'll want to take a look at these destinations. Smaller populations, stunning vistas, and some fantastic real estate set these places apart.

To determine the mountain towns with the nicest homes, MomsWhoThink reviewed five-year data on median household value and median household income from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2022 American Community Survey. Cities, towns, and Census-designated places were ranked based on the percentage of owner-occupied housing units valued at $2,000,000 or more.

Only places with at least 1,000 residents where at least 5% of housing units are vacant for seasonal or recreational use that intersect a mountain were considered. Mountain spatial boundaries are from the GMBA Mountain Inventory v2 of EarthEnv.
