10 Overpriced Restaurant Chains That Will Make Your Wallet Cry

The United States has an incredible variety of restaurants in almost every type of cuisine and every price range imaginable. One of the beautiful things about our country is how many different cultures and customs are represented. This is especially true when it comes to food. Whether you're looking for authentic French, Italian, Mexican, or Brazilian cuisine, you can find it somewhere in the U.S.

Another important part of American culture is the chain restaurant, which is not something unique to inexpensive dining. According to the USDA, about 40% of all restaurants in the U.S. are chains. The majority are quick-service chains, such as McDonald's and other fast-food restaurants, but there are many popular full-service restaurant chains as well.

While many chains are known for their affordability and kid-friendly environments, others are synonymous with luxury and high-priced fare. The food may be outstanding, but for many diners, the prices are just a bit too high.

Whether a restaurant is overpriced or not often comes down to personal preferences. What one individual is willing to pay for a fancy meal isn't necessarily what everyone is willing to pay. In this article, we dive into 10 restaurant chains we believe are overpriced, even if the food is delicious.

This post was updated in August 2025 to include updated information about restaurant chains in the U.S. and the number of locations for some of the overpriced chains.
