The Best Hiking Towns With Some Homes Under $63,000

There's nothing quite like being in the great outdoors. The smell of the crisp mountain air, the sounds of nature all around, and everywhere you look, the landscape has something to offer, from incredible hiking trails to pristine lakes and rivers. Not only is being outdoors beautiful and calming but it is known to improve wellness, with increased sleep quality, among other positive effects. Visiting hiking towns like these are great, but permanently relocating to one is even better.

If relocating to a place where you can hike, bike, or camp year round sounds ideal to you, you're in luck. These budget-friendly hiking towns offer numerous trails to explore and more and even better, these areas are incredibly affordable with homes under $63,000.

To determine budget-friendly hiking towns with affordable homes, Moms Who Think reviewed five-year data on median household value and median household income from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2022 American Community Survey. Cities, towns, and Census-designated places were ranked based on the ratio of median home value to median household income.

Only places with at least 2,500 residents and at least half a mile of hiking trail per 10 square miles of land area were included. Spatial data on hiking trails is from the U.S. Forest Service.
