6 Reasons Panera Is No Longer My Go-To Lunch Spot

For years, Panera felt like one of the easiest lunch decisions I could make. The menu offered a little of everything—soups, sandwiches, salads, bakery treats, and enough kid-friendly choices to keep the whole family happy. Compared with a typical fast-food stop, it also seemed fresher, a little more grown-up, and easier to justify when I wanted something quick without feeling like I had completely given up on eating well.

Over time, though, I started paying closer attention to what I was actually getting. The prices kept climbing, some portions seemed smaller, and the “fresh” image did not always match the experience. Once I looked more closely at the sodium, calorie counts, ingredients, and overall value, my dependable lunch spot began to feel a lot less dependable.

Panera still has loyal fans, and there are menu items I genuinely enjoy. But these six issues were enough to make me question whether it still deserved a regular place in my family’s lunch rotation—or whether I had simply kept going out of habit.
