Many hot springs are located in remote parts of the United States, where land is plentiful and houses are cheap. To determine the most affordable hot springs towns, Moms Who Think reviewed five-year data on median household value and median household income from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2022 American Community Survey. Cities, towns, and villages were ranked based on the ratio of median home value to median household income. Only cities with at least 4,000 residents and at least five hot springs within a 25 mile radius were considered. Thermal springs locations are from the National Centers for Environmental Information of the NOAA. Data was aggregated from points to cities, towns, and villages using spatial boundaries from the U.S. Census Bureau's TIGER/Line shapefile program. City, town, and village boundaries are current as of 2022. Data on population is also from the U.S. Census Bureau ACS and is for 2022. All spatial analysis was conducted in GIS.
