20 Overhyped Movies That Turned Into Major Hollywood Flops

Hollywood studios often promote big movies as guaranteed hits, especially when a film has a famous cast, a massive budget, or a beloved franchise behind it. But even the most promising projects can fail once they reach theaters. Some movies arrive with enormous expectations only to disappoint audiences and struggle at the box office.

In this slideshow, Moms Who Think looks at 20 movies that were heavily hyped before release but ultimately became cautionary tales for the film industry. Many of these productions had everything going for them, including major stars, huge marketing campaigns, and ambitious storytelling, yet something still went wrong.

Financial data referenced in this slideshow comes from well known film industry tracking sources such as Box Office Mojo and The Numbers.

Here are 20 movies that seemed destined for success but ultimately fell far short of expectations.
