Kitchen Measurement Conversion Chart

What do you do when your recipe calls for grams, but you only have measuring cups? How do you measure a pinch? Converting cooking measurements into ones that work with the measuring tools in your kitchen cabinets is a challenge, especially when the pot on the stove is bubbling over. Use our guide to make the math easy.

Here are some of the most common conversions from metric to measurements typically used in the U.S.

5 ml = 1 teaspoon
15 ml = 1 tablespoon
30 ml = 1 fluid ounces
240 ml = 1 cup
1 liter = 34 fluid ounces
1 liter = 4.2 cups
1 gram = .035 ounce
100 grams = 3.5 ounces
500 grams = 1.10 pounds

Oven temperatures can be listed in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. Here are some of the most common conversions.

Fahrenheit to Celsius
300 F = 150 C
350 F = 180 C
375 F = 190 C
400 F = 200 C
425 F = 220 C
450 F = 230 C

Did you know that a stick of butter is 4 oz. which is the same as 8 tablespoons or half a cup? Here are some other equivalents that might come in handy.

3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon
⅛ cup = 2 tablespoons
¼ cup = 4 tablespoons
⅓ cup = 5 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon
½ cup = 8 tablespoons
¾ cup = 12 tablespoons
1 cup = 16 tablespoons

8 fluid ounces = 1 cup
1 pint 2 cups = 16 fluid ounces
1 quart 2 pints = 4 cups
1 gallon 4 quarts = 16 cups

Tip: A pinch is 1/8 of a teaspoon. It is such a small measurement, that you may be better off with the amount you can “pinch” between your fingers!
