As a Busy Mom, I Avoid All Coffee Brands Except These 5
As a mom of three children, I can't start my day without a cup of coffee. I know there are plenty of busy parents out there who agree. Every coffee drinker may have their own opinion on what makes a good cup of coffee. For me, the best cup starts with fresh coffee beans.
While some of the most popular coffee brands out there, like Folgers or Maxwell House, are pre-ground, we prefer to buy whole beans from some of our favorite roasters. When it comes to choosing coffee beans, we look for brands that sell fresh beans and offer a variety of options while still being affordable for our family. We also prioritize buying beans that are ethically sourced. There are many businesses out there that sell high-quality coffee, but if you're looking for a great list to start with, try one of these coffee brands.
Intelligentsia
You can't make a list of the best coffee brands without mentioning Intelligensia. Whether you're looking for coffee beans, ready-to-drink coffee, or even a cozy cafe, Intelligensia has it all. This business has been roasting coffee in the U.S. since 1995. Aside from offering high-quality beans and coffee beverages, Intelligensia also focuses on ethical coffee sourcing for its selection of coffees.
What to Try
Intelligentsia has a coffee subscription with seasonal blends offered throughout the year. If you prefer a dark roast coffee, the El Diablo is a popular choice with hints of molasses, cacao, and raisin. For a more balanced roast, choose the Frequency Blend.
Counter Culture
Counter Culture Coffee is a roasting company based out of Durham, North Carolina. Since its founding in 1995, Counter Culture has focused on ethical and sustainable practices. In 1997, Counter Culture launched a bird-friendly coffee line and in 2002, it became the first organic-certified coffee roaster in North Carolina.
What to Try
Unlike many other brands, even the dark roast from Counter Culture is smooth and balanced, without any hint of bitterness. Big Trouble, a medium roast with hints of caramel, is a popular choice for coffee-lovers. Another great blend to try is the Forty-Six, which is a dark roast with notes of dark chocolate.
Blue Bottle Coffee
Blue Bottle Coffee is another popular brand that offers high-quality, certified organic coffee beans. The beans at Blue Bottle Coffee exceed speciality-grade standards and are sourced from a select group of producers. The team at Blue Bottle Coffee roasts beans in small batches, so you know you'll always get a fresh bag.
What to Try
The Bella Donovan blend is a popular choice, offering flavors like raspberry, chocolate, and molasses. This blend is freshly roasted, with beans sourced from Ethiopia. Although it's considered a medium roast, it's on the darker side, which makes it perfect for those who love strong blends.
Sey Coffee
Sey Coffee is based out of Brooklyn, New York and is committed to quality and sustainability. They offer a range of seasonally sourced coffee so there's something for everyone, no matter what type of flavor or roast you prefer. If you're in the area, you can visit the cafe in Brooklyn for a completely unique coffee experience.
What to Try
With a subscription from Sey Coffee, you receive a curated selection of fresh coffee, complete with seasonally sourced options throughout the year. Sey specializes in light coffee, so it may not be your favorite if you prefer a darker roast. Options like the Kedida Gubata, complete with flavors like honeydew, nectarine, and lime, are great to start with.
Onyx Coffee
Onyx Coffee was built on the phrase, "Never settle for good enough." This is part of their mission, pushing them to find the best, highest-quality coffee in the world. They offer transparency in their business by providing customers with the pricing and trade data for each pound of beans.
What to Try
There are many best-selling beans you can choose from at Onyx Coffee. One of the best options to try is the Southern Weather blend. With hints of milk chocolate, plum, and candied walnuts, it's full of flavor and makes for the perfect pick-me-up.
