These 12 Nostalgic All-You-Can-Eat Restaurants Will Remind You of Your Childhood

The first all-you-can-eat buffet in the United States was established in 1946 at the El Rancho Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada. Opened by Herb McDonald, it was called the Buckaroo Buffet and was open 24 hours a day. The concept of buffets quickly caught on, and this type of restaurant model was popular for decades. If you grew up in the 80s and 90s or were raising kids during that time, you may have fond memories of visiting some of these buffets.

While some all-you-can-eat restaurants closed in recent years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, industry reports in 2026 indicate cautious optimism for the restaurant sector overall, though there is no clear evidence of a widespread buffet resurgence. Some of the nostalgic buffets that recently closed include:

  • Old Country Buffet
  • HomeTown Buffet
  • Ryan's Buffet

However, there are still many all-you-can-eat restaurants open today, and some that previously closed down, such as Sweet Tomatoes, are actively reopening locations, including a confirmed reopening in Fort Myers, Florida, in 2026. If you're ready for a blast from the past, check out this list of 12 nostalgic all-you-can-eat restaurants that will remind you of your childhood.

This post was updated in July 2026 to include updated information about some of the most popular all-you-can-eat restaurants.
