Tips For Choosing The Right Dog Breed
There are so many different dog breeds out there to choose from. Many families will go with the classic choices, like Labradors, Goldens, and German Shepherds. There are so many other breeds that deserve your consideration, too!
A great place to start is the AKC website. AKC's website provides information for every dog breed that it currently recognizes. This is a great way to find out more about breeds you're unfamiliar with, while comparing those you're interested in. It's important to know what you're looking for in a dog before searching for the right breed.
Do you want an active dog or a quiet dog? How important is trainability? Do you want a small dog, or a larger dog? There are so many questions to answer. Many of them depend on your particular situation. If you have small children, for example, large dog breeds are out of the question.
Take your time when picking a dog breed. Consider how available breeders for a specific breed are. Will you have to pay for transport, or does the breeder require you to come to them? Rarer dog breeds may not have a breeder in your state, meaning you will have to incur additional costs for transport or travel. If you're going to rescue a dog of a specific breed, make sure you look into how far away the nearest reputable shelter for that breed is.
