Pizza Lovers' Guide to the Best Pies in America

Pizza is one of those topics that sparks debate. Is New York-style pizza the best? What about Chicago's deep dish? Do you prefer a thin crust or a deep dish, with or without pineapple? While preferences vary depending on who you ask, there's no right or wrong way to enjoy pizza. While people may not agree on the best style or toppings, one universally true thing is that pizza is delicious, and nearly everyone has a favorite spot to grab a slice.

With the rise of big pizza chains all across America, smaller, family-friendly chains often get overlooked. Fast chains like Domino's, Papa John's, and Pizza Hut may be fast, but they aren't generally known for their authentic regional pizza. These chains tend to be the same no matter where you go. When you visit local pizzerias, you not only get a taste of the region, but you're also sampling flavors you don't usually find with big chains.

If you are looking for your next favorite pizza place in your state, look no further. To figure out which pizza places deserved to be on this list, we consulted Yelp and Google's top-rated pizza places lists. These lists were determined based on customer reviews. We only focused on restaurants that had the majority of positive reviews and at least 4.5 out of 5 stars.

This post was updated in February 2026 to include relevant information about the best pizza places in every state and additional editorial enhancements.
