The 5 Largest School Districts In Maine Are Massive

Maine offers a good educational system for students. Currently ranked in the top 10, they hold seventh place for best schools in the nation. They rank sixth for student success and third for student safety. They rank in 11th place for school quality. Portland Public Schools

The Portland Public Schools District has 6,472 students with a student-teacher ratio of 11:1. The district received an overall grade of B+. Their academics were graded B with reading proficiency at 80% and math proficiency at 71%. The Portland district ranks in the top 20 for best school districts in Maine and is ranked 25 out of 120 for best places to teach in the state.

Lewiston Public Schools

The Lewiston Public Schools District struggles more academically. With 5,182 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11:1, they received an overall grade of C-. Their academics received a C- with their reading proficiency scores at 65% and math proficiency at 53%. They also were graded C- in the teachers and administrations category.

Bangor Public Schools

The Bangor Public Schools District has 3,494 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13:1. They received an overall grade of A-, they're ranked the second-best school district in their county, and ranked sixth for having the best teachers in the state. Their academics received an A- with their reading proficiency at 86% and math proficiency at 84%.

Regional School Unit No. 06

The Regional School District has 3,336 students with a student-teacher ratio of 12:1. Located in Buxton, ME, they received an overall grade of C. They scored C's in most of the categories assessed including academics, teachers, facilities, administration, and college prep. Their academics received a C+ with a reading proficiency of 87% and a math proficiency of 80%.

Auburn Public Schools

The Auburn Public School District has 3,276 and a student-teacher ratio of 11:1. They score low in almost every category and receive an overall grade of C-.
