The 10 Largest School Districts In Vermont Are Massive

The Vermont education system is one of the best in the entire country. Although they rank extremely well, currently fourth in the nation, they still strive every day to work towards bettering their education. They have the lowest average student-teacher ratio of 10:1. Vermont also ranks as one of the safest states for students with one the lowest percentages of injured or threatened students. If you live in Vermont, your student is likely to be in good hands. But, with that being said, let's take a look at some of the largest school districts in Vermont and how they rank.

Essex Westford School District

The Essex Westford School District is the largest in the state with 3,825 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15:1. Located in Essex Junction, VT, they are rated number three in the best school districts in Vermont and received an overall grade of A-. Essex is also number two for athletes in Vermont and number four for best places to teach in Vermont. The average teacher salary is $100,000. Although their proficiency scores aren't listed, they score an A in academics.

Burlington School District

The Burlington School District is the second largest district in the state with 3,500 students and a higher student-teacher ratio of 20:1. Burlington is graded lower with an overall B-. They score low in the teachers, clubs, and administration categories. But their higher grades in sports and college preparation bring their average to the B-. Their academics also score a B-, with reading proficiency at 49% and math proficiency at 42%.

South Burlington School District

The South Burlington School District is the third largest district in the state with 2,705 students and a student-teacher ratio of 22:1. It is the number one school district in the state with an overall grade of an A! It is also ranked number one for best places to teach and best for athletes in Vermont. Their reading proficiency score is 71% and math proficiency is 59%. Their average teacher salary is $105,558.

Mount Mansfield Unified School District No. 401

Mount Mansfield Unified School District is the second-best school district in Vermont and receives an overall grade of A. Located in Jericho, VT, they serve 2,629 students and have a student-teacher ratio of 18:1. Although their proficiency scores aren't listed, they score well across most of the graded categories. They received A's in academics, teachers, clubs, facilities, administration, and college preparation.

Windham Southeast Unified School District No. 96

The Windham Southeast Unified School District has 2,422 students and is located in Brattleboro, VT. They have a student-teacher ratio of 18:1 and an overall grade of B. Their proficiency scores are not listed but they received a B in academics. They scored mostly B's in the graded categories, except for resources and facilities which was graded an A, and administrations a C+. This is what brings the school average down to a B-.

Colchester School District

The Colchester School District is rated number four in the state and has an overall grade of B+. They serve 2,409 students with a student-teacher ratio of 23:1. They received an A- in academics with a reading proficiency of 59% and math proficiency of 53%. Colchester is also rated number two in best places to teach and number five for athletes in Vermont. The average teacher salary in this district is $94,595.

Barre Unified School District No. 97

The Barre Unified School District has 2,185 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14:1. This is the first district we see on the list with an overall grade of C. They scored C's in most of the graded categories except for clubs which was graded B- and facilities which was graded an A. Their proficiency scores are not listed but their academics seem to struggle as their academics were graded a C+.

Rutland City School District

The Rutland City School District has 2,015 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15:1. The district is graded a B-, and scored B's in most of the graded categories. Their reading proficiency is 44% and math proficiency is 38%. This district is also ranked as the #10 best place to teach in Vermont. Their annual teacher salary is $90,358.

Missisquoi Valley School District No. 89

The Missisquoi Valley District has 1,810 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15:1. This district struggles compared to others with an overall grade of C-. They score C's in important categories such as academics, teachers, and administration.

Kingdom East Unified School District

The Kingdom East Unified School District has 1,786 students and a student-teacher ratio of 22:1. They also score lower with an overall grade of C+. They score a C in academics, but score B's in the teacher, clubs, administration, and facilities categories which brings up their average grade to C+.
