The Most Popular Boomer Names That Are Nearly Extinct

As the Boomer generation (those born between 1946-1964) ages, their most common names are becoming increasingly obsolete. In fact, it’s often easy to determine the fact that someone is a Baby Boomer based solely on their name. Below is a list of 50 common names from the Boomer generation that are slowly dying out.

How We Determined the List

To determine the most popular baby boomer names that are dying out, we reviewed data on names from the U.S. Social Security Administration. Names were ranked based on the decline in the average number of newborns receiving each name over the period 1946 through 1964 to the period 2010 through 2023. Only names that were given to fewer than one in every 10,000 newborns over the period 2010 through 2023 were considered.
