It isn't hard to prepare this pie, so you can easily bake it the morning of Thanksgiving. It takes one hour to bake, so make sure to set aside the right amount of time.

It's a good idea to give yourself an extra 10-20 minutes with any pie, just in case the prep or cooking process takes longer than expected. Deep Dish Apple Crumb Pie


4 cup apples, sliced, peeled, a little thicker wedges than for pie
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/3 cup orange juice
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup butter
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons orange rind, grated


Place apples in deep pie pan, add orange juice.

Mix together sugars, orange rind, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt and flour. Cut in butter. Spread evenly over apples.

Bake in 350 degree F oven 1 hour. Serve warm or cold with a topping of ice cream.
