Homemade Summer Dog Treats

In the heat of summer, humans aren't the only ones who love a cool summer treat! Whip up one of these summer dog treats, and Fido will be THRILLED! Not only will it keep their tastebuds happy, but it will provide a chilly respite from rising temps. Plus it's fun for the kids to create something for their furry sibling.

Here are the summer dog treats — made with simple, wholesome ingredients — your pup will LOVE!

Fido’s Ice Pops

  • Mix dry dog food and pup-friendly vegetables (avoid onions, garlic, and avocado) with chicken stock and freeze the mixture in an ice cube tray. Pop one out when they need a treat and help them cool down.
  • Add plain frozen chicken stock cubes to their food dish during mealtime.
  • Make big blocks of flavored ice in an old milk jug with the top cut off or small freezable bucket for an outdoor treat they’ll pick at all afternoon.

Pet-Friendly Ice Cream

Mix together four tablespoons of plain low-fat Greek yogurt, two ripe bananas, and peanut butter. Freeze the mixture in a container with a lid and scoop it out like ice cream.

Hollow Toy Filling Suggestions

Filling ideas include:

  • Non-fat plain yogurt
  • Peanut butter
