Vaginal Dryness

A symptom of perimenopause, vaginal dryness, is caused by estrogen levels dropping. The vaginal tissues start drying and become less elastic. Due to the loss of moisture sex can become uncomfortable, and the vagina is frequently itchy, easily irritated, and prone to infection. As estrogen levels go down, the vaginal walls get thinner and lose some of their elasticity. The vagina becomes dryer and takes longer to become lubricated.
