Tips for Picking a Baby Name

Picking a baby name is one of the most important things prospective parents will do. It can be a very intimidating process; after all, this is the name your child will live with! Follow our tips to make the process easier.

First, don't spend all day, every day focusing on baby names. You'll end up burning yourself out, and subsequently ending up more frustrated than you need to be. Take 30-45 minutes each day to research and consider baby names. It might mean the overall process takes longer, but that's better than bringing unnecessary stress upon yourself.

Second, consider asking a close friend for their opinion if you're struggling to decide between two baby names. We don't recommend asking a lot of people, since the opinions of many can get quite overwhelming! Remember that you don't have to go with whatever someone else says. This is your child; if you don't agree with someone's opinion, then don't follow it.

Third, consider how a name you like will work in the real world. A certain name may sound great on paper, but in the real world could inspire teasing and discrimination. While ideally everyone would respect the names of others, unfortunately that just isn't the case. Try to strike a good balance between unique and not too out-there.
