A hearty serving of baked beans

How to Make Sweet and Tangy Baked Beans

A BBQ favorite, this baked beans recipe is always a welcome addition. Using a can of beans as a base and then adding a few ingredients take the canned beans from basic to delicious.

The distinctive sharp taste of the mustard, ranging from sweet to spicy, contrasts nicely with the sweetness of the brown sugar. Brown sugar is sucrose sugar that contains molasses, the dark having a higher content than the light, adding to its flavor.

Add America's favorite condiment (is it ketchup or catsup?) and the enticingly aromatic bacon and you've got a great side dish.

Baked Beans Recipe

  • 1 large can of pork and beans
  • 1 tsp or more mustard
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 pound bacon

1. Grease a large baking pan.

2. Mix all ingredients except bacon, and pour into the baking pan.

3. Place strips of bacon on top.

4. Cook for 45 minutes or 1 hour at 350 F.

Serve this as a side at your next barbecue or with your weeknight meal. It's easy and quick and requires minimal ingredients. And if you are watching your middle, take a look at our healthy baked beans version. Both are delicious versions that your little ones will devour.
