You Need to Try This Easy Broccoli and Cheese Calzone Recipe

Everyone loves calzones! They're a delicious alternative to pizza. Many pizza places offer calzones on their menu, but why bother ordering when you can make them yourself? You may be thinking that making your own calzones sounds like a difficult endeavor.

It definitely can be, with the wrong recipe. But with a recipe like this one, making your own calzones is a breeze. There are only a few ingredients required, and the entire process is as simple and straightforward as can be.

Usually, calzones have pepperoni in them. We're changing it up with this recipe. Instead of pepperoni, you'll enjoy broccoli inside. This one may not go over too well with the kids, but since there's so much cheese in this recipe they probably won't notice.

Using broccoli instead of pepperoni is a great way to make this recipe healthier. Broccoli comes with a lot of nutrition, and is lower in both fat and calories when compared to pepperoni. Of course, you can always add in some meat if you'd like!

Broccoli and Cheese Calzone

Ingredients:

1 pound fresh or frozen pizza dough, thawed according to package directions
2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
2 teaspoons garlic and herb seasoning (preferably salt-free)
2 cups fresh or frozen broccoli florets – thawed
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

2. Roll dough out into a large circle about ½-inch thick.

3. Transfer dough to a baking sheet (It's okay if some dough hangs over the edge, you'll be folding it in half).

4. In a bowl, combine the mozzarella cheese and seasoning.

5. Top one half of the dough with the mozzarella cheese, broccoli, and Parmesan.

6. Fold over the side of the dough without the toppings and pinch the edges together to seal.

7. Bake 20 minutes until the crust is golden brown.

8. Let stand for 5 minutes before cutting crosswise into slices.
