Strawberry Pie Recipe
When we think of pies, blueberry, blackberry, pumpkin, apple and cherry all come to mind. Strawberry pies are a bit more unusual, yet they can make very delicious desserts.
Strawberry pies are great when served in the summer. For one, the pie has a light fruity taste that is perfect in the summer heat.
Another reason this dessert is terrific in summer is because that’s the season when strawberries are at their best. Although they are grown from January through November, their peak season is April through June.
This strawberry pie is also very easy to make. Once all components are prepared, they can simply be mixed together and put into the pie crust. This limits time spent in a hot kitchen.
Strawberry pie typically uses gelatin which serves to set the strawberries. This recipe used gelatin as well as a vanilla pudding to add to the sweetness. It is then served in a graham cracker crust and served cold.
Other versions of the pie can be baked with a crust on both the bottom and across the top. No matter what version of the pie you make, one thing the dessert should have as a characteristic is that it will be mainly strawberries with a content close to 70%.
Although most people will not eat strawberry pie for its nutritional benefits, it can be quite good for you. Strawberries are high in fiber, vitamins and antioxidants. They are sodium free, fat free and low calorie. They can promote good cholesterol, lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of cancer.
Considering that, the whole dessert can be relatively low calorie overall, especially if the pudding is mixed with fat free or low fat milk.
