Many names for boys and girls have remained consistently popular in recent years. Baby names tend to mirror the cultural trends of the time. These influences are usually evident in national baby name lists produced each year.

Comparing state baby name lists to the nationwide list often reveals regional preferences. This year in Maryland, three baby names appear on that state's list that are not on the national list: Michael, Chloe, and Zoe.

Whatever name you choose for your child, start thinking about names early and decide whether you want to follow naming trends or avoid them. There are many beautiful names out there and what matters most is what feels right for you and your family.
