Aden

Aden is a name that was created from a variation on a Biblical character by the name of Adin. He was in exile in Babylon, a Jew from Israel, but he returned to his homeland after escaping. There is also an Irish background to this name, however. When considering the Irish meaning, it is based on the name Aidan.

Meaning of the Name Aden

Aden is a name that has many meanings, including attractive, handsome, and little fire. The name Aden, when considering the Irish background, is derived from an Irish legend whose name was Aodhan. The name Aiden, which is an alternative spelling of the name, was created from the name of this legend. Aodhan actually received his name from a Celtic god named Aodh who was over the sun and the fire. It may also have Biblical origins, however, as it is based on an Israelite in the Bible who escaped captivity.

The Irish meaning of the name Aden, meaning little fire, or the Gaelic meaning of fire, goes directly back to the Celtic god as he was over all of the fire and the sun. In Hebrew times, however, this strong will behind the name Aden, which was originally Adin in the Bible, was still seen. The character whose name was Adin literally escaped captivity to find freedom.
